Furuno Marine 1623 Radar NMEA Connection

Looking for some advice and help with NMEA Connection I read a posting that the Furuno 1623 will only work with with RS-422 Protocol , does anyone know if that is correct? Can't find that in the manual. Most GPS chart plotters seem to use RS-232 including the Standard Horizon CP 390 on the boat.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

This is not true. In fact NMEA.ORG will no longer certify devices that are not RS422 as being NMEA 0183 certified.

Yes, the 1623 uses certified NMEA 0183 (RS422).
